22 Parents' Handbook 2019 – 2020 Laptops, iPads, video cameras and LCD projectors are available on loan for special projects and presentations. Each user works within our campus-wide network and has ubiquitous access to a secure, high-speed Internet connection. From PK onwards, classes have access to media labs, laptop and iPad carts. Beginning in Grade 2, a tfs.ca Google Apps for Education account is provided to each student, in conjunction with in-class digital citizenship lessons. Email is introduced in Grades 3 and 4. Teachers are equipped with macBook Air laptops and the integration of technology is supported by specialist teachers across all branches. Level II to V students participate in a BYOD program (Bring your Own Device), while younger grades share class sets of laptops, a robotics lab and the Apple media lab. SPECIAL TOOLS, FACILITIES AND ACTIVITIES There are many information technology and media facilities available at TFS: - Computer graphic workstations with digital animation, graphic art and audio manipulation; - Online photo galleries and archives of VHS and DVD videos; - RoboticsLab including mBot and EV3 Educational Robotic Systems; - Mobile solar panel cart; - VR Kits - Computer-equipped science labs; - Mobile computer carts with scientific probes; - All classrooms with interactive whiteboard projectors; - Online subscriptions to educational resources, research tools and database catalogues; - Large-format poster-sized printers and scanners and, - Digital media and broadcast studios, producing Internet radio, VOD and live video streaming. VALUE-ADDED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES AT TFS INCLUDE: Mobile Hotspot: Mississauga-based students travelling to the Senior School have Wi-Fi connectivity while on the bus. This mobile Wi-Fi service is also available during school trips, when more than one hour of time is spent on the bus. LIBRARY INFORMATION CENTRES All of the branch libraries have well-established and closely supervised collection development policies to ensure that a wide selection of appropriate print, nonprint and electronic material is available to each student. The central focus of the Library Information Centres is to instil a love of reading and lifelong learning. To access TFS' libraries, please visit forum.tfs. ca and choose the appropriate grade level. LA P'TITE ÉCOLE (PK-GRADE 1) Every week, students visit the school's library and, beginning in the first term, JK to Grade 1 students have the opportunity to choose a book to take home, on loan for a one-week period. Books that go missing or are damaged will be replaced by the school and a replacement fee will be charged to the student's account. A DVD loan program is offered to SK and Grade 1 students. The borrowed DVD must be returned within one week. For students to be entitled to a new selection the following week, it is imperative the movie be returned in the plastic bag provided. Missing and damaged movies will be replaced by the school and a fee of $25 will be charged to the student's TFS account. JUNIOR SCHOOL (GRADES 2-5) Students visit the library regularly. Both students and parents alike can borrow from the Junior School library! The loan period is one week. Loans can be renewed if the book has not been requested by another student. Books can be returned or exchanged by students before or after school.
