16 Parents' Handbook 2019 – 2020 TFS does not provide, sell, or trade the personal information we collect to or with any other organizations. Occasionally, we use outside suppliers; in these cases, we ensure tight controls over data are adhered to. When we share personal information, such as name, address and/ or email address, the information is destroyed after use. In exceptional circumstances, TFS may have to disclose personal information when required by law. Similarly, we expect parents to respect the personal information of others, such as email addresses, and not use such information for commercial purposes. Please go to your branch website under Resources to read the full Privacy Policy. COMMUNICATING WITH THE SCHOOL We encourage and foster good communications between our parents and TFS staff. If you have a classroom-based concern regarding your child, we encourage you to discuss it with the teacher and resolve it at that level. For any other school-based questions, please ask at the Branch Office and staff will be pleased to direct your question to the right person. MESSAGES TO YOUR CHILD Classes will not be interrupted for a message and calls will not be put through to the classroom, except in the case of an emergency. As two or more staff members may be involved with your child throughout the day, an email message to the teacher is the best way to ensure good communication. If unexpected information has to reach your child, please advise the Branch Office before 3:00 p.m. Urgent messages should be left with the Branch Office rather than on the teacher's voice mail or email. TEXTBOOKS AND SUPPLIES PK TO GRADE 7 For children in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 1, all required classroom supplies will be provided. All other students should come to school with a case containing pencils, pens, an eraser, coloured pencils, scissors, glue and a pencil sharpener. Students in Grades 3-7 are required to have a geometry set. In Grades 3-5, notebooks and ruled paper will be issued by the school. Supplies are not generally issued to students in Grade 6 and above. Where special subject notebooks are issued, however, parents will be billed accordingly. The TFS Shop carries a wide selection of school supplies. Required supplies for all grades are communicated through the back-to-school package. Educational and digital resources are rented to parents of students from PK through Grade 5 (through Grade 7 at the West Campus). The amounts vary by grade from approximately $150 for Jardin d'éveil to $550 for Grade 7. This fee will be billed on your September statement of account. Students will be given their school text books on Welcome Back Day and in the following days. Please note that these books belong to the school and must be returned in good condition at the end of the year. Parents will be responsible for the replacement cost of damaged or lost books. SENIOR SCHOOL: GRADE 6 TO LEVEL V All students from Grade 6 through Level V must purchase their textbooks through Batner Bookstore. Parents can order new or used books for fall online or at Batner's storefront. If orders are placed in summer, they will be delivered directly to your home or office before the first day of school. Ordering is simple and efficient and payment can be made by VISA, MC, Interac Online, EFT or cheque. Batner Bookstore will ensure that students get the right books on time at a fair price with a very fair return policy. Digital textbooks are offered when available.
