28 Parents' Handbook 2019 – 2020 Students in Level II participate in an Outward Bound experiential program; the program is compulsory. Outward Bound offers either a back country (Algonquin Park) or front country (Evergreen Brick Works and Snake Island) adventure program. Outward Bound experiences are applicable to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Program, which encourages active, personal development, from age 14 (as of December 31) and up. In 2019, all Level II students are enrolled into the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Program. TFS encourages its students to be multilingual learners who transcend borders and become active, responsible citizens with deepened self-awareness and broad life skills. Optional international cultural and/or service learning trips are offered to a variety of destinations including Switzerland, France, Spain, Martinique, India, and China. Please go to your branch website under: Student Life > Overnight and International Trips to read a full description of the trips offered. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES TFS offers many grade and branch specific activities, clubs and workshops outside of school hours that appeal to various personal interests. They provide students with opportunities to cultivate new interests, skills and passions in a safe and inclusive environment. They also support the development of confidence, team spirit and a sense of community. LA P'TITE ÉCOLE (JK AND UP), THE JUNIOR SCHOOL AND WEST CAMPUS Extra-curricular activities include sports (competitive and recreational), music, chess, visual arts and drama, to name just a few. A calendar of activities and registration forms are available on each branch website prior to the beginning of each term. SENIOR SCHOOL TFS offers a variety of activities that create an environment that promotes initiative-taking and encourages self-discovery and the development of growth mindset. The selection varies somewhat each year, but the following are some examples: Clubs: We have more than 30 student-led clubs at the Senior School, including: Globe (environmental), Outreach and Best Buddies (community engagement), Coding, Classics, Opera, Peer Mentoring and Limited Edition. Our Debating and Public Speaking team has a strong reputation. Junior and Senior teams perform in the Fulford debates and compete, in English and French, against other independent and public schools. Debates can occur in the GTA, other cities of provinces and internationally. The Model United Nations (MUN) club has sent delegates to various seminars and competitions in Toronto, at Yale University, and at the United Nations in New York. Younger students are encouraged to get involved but generally the out-of-town conferences involve older students. Music includes Wind and String Ensembles, Jazz and Percussion Ensembles and Guitar Clubs, which rehearse in the morning, at lunch and after school. Our music ensembles compete at the Kiwanis Festival, MusicFest Canada and the Ontario Band Association, while individuals participate in the Canadian Independent Schools' Music Festival. Dramatic Arts: We produce one major drama or musical, usually every year. In addition, older students have the opportunity to perform their original works at school and at festivals, including the Festival Théâtre Action en milieu scolaire (FTAMS). Fashion and Dance Shows: The annual Fashion Show, organized by students in LV, is an entertaining, energetic and kaleidoscopic night of fashion, art and creativity that raises funds
