34 Parents' Handbook 2019 – 2020 - respect diversity and treat others fairly, regardless of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnicity, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age or disability; - use appropriate, polite, and respectful language; - show proper care and regard for the rights, property, and safety of themselves and others; - avoid all types of violent acts; - demonstrate respect for both the school and global environments; - take appropriate measures to help those in need; - seek assistance from a member of the school staff, if necessary, to resolve conflict peacefully; - respect all members of the school community by exhibiting behaviour that avoids and rejects all forms of intimidation, harassment, racism and discrimination; - follow the direction of persons in positions of authority; and, - create a school environment that is conducive to learning and teaching. Safety All members of the school community must: - obey traffic rules when arriving, leaving and while on school property; - refrain from bringing anything to school that may compromise personal safety, or the safety of others; and, - demonstrate appropriate conduct and manners at all times. Members of the school community must not: - engage in bullying (in person) or cyber-bullying (electronically) behaviours; - threaten or intimidate another person; - commit physical, verbal or sexual assault; - be in possession of any weapon and/or illegal drugs; - traffic weapons and/or illegal drugs; - commit theft or robbery; - use any object to threaten or intimidate another person; - cause injury to any person; - be in possession of, or be under the influence of, or provide others with alcohol or illegal drugs; - give alcohol to anyone under the legal drinking age at any school-related event; - encourage others to inflict bodily harm on themselves or another person; - engage in hate propaganda in person or electronically or engage in other forms of behaviour motivated by hate or bias; and, - commit an act of vandalism that causes damage to personal or school property, to property located on the premises of the school, or to the property of others. The TFS standards of behaviour apply to all members of the school community, including students, parents, caregivers, guardians, teachers or other school staff members, board members, volunteers and visitors. 2) SCOPE OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT The standards of behaviour apply: - on TFS property, including at lunch and recess; - while travelling on a school bus that is owned by TFS or that is under contract to TFS; - during TFS in-school and out-of-school sports activities; - on school-sponsored field trips, excursions and trips; - during off-site TFS-sponsored activities; and, - in circumstances where engaging in an activity in person or electronically could have a negative impact on the TFS community. 3) BULLYING PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION Objective TFS is committed to providing a healthy school environment that is nurturing, caring and respectful of everyone.
