We also assume a leadership role in providing staff with training sessions and materials, organizing workshops, and inviting outside experts in child psychology and health to address such topics as bullying and allergic reactions. FIRST AID Each school branch has multiple staff members trained in First Aid. Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are installed in all buildings. In addition to the many first aid responders at the school, staff has been specifically trained in the use of AEDs and are ready to attend emergency medical situations. EVACUATION AND LOCKDOWN Some emergency situations may prevent the safe evacuation of a school building and may require steps to isolate students and staff from danger by instituting a school lockdown. In a lockdown situation, all students are kept in classrooms or other designated locations that are away from the danger. The school conducts two annual lockdown drills at each branch to familiarize occupants with these procedures. STUDENT AND VISITOR ENTRANCE PROCEDURES We have additional safety measures to further enhance campus security. Keyless entry systems are in use on certain doors and security cameras monitor entrances. All visitors (including parents) are asked to report to reception, so we can know at all times who is present in the school. Access cards are in use for Senior School students and TFS staff, allowing them entry during specific times. These cards can also be used when borrowing materials from the library and purchasing food in the cafeteria or items from the TFS Shop. Parents with students in Jardin d'éveil have access cards that allow them entrance to 294 Lawrence Avenue East during drop-off and pick-up times, Monday to Friday. Parents with students in PK through Grade 1 in Toronto have access cards that allow them entrance to 101 Mildenhall during drop-off, Monday to Friday. SUPERVISION: LA P'TITE ÉCOLE, THE JUNIOR SCHOOL AND THE WEST CAMPUS For safety reasons, no student is allowed in the schoolyard unsupervised before 8:00 a.m. (8:15 a.m. at the West Campus) and after 4:05 p.m. No student is allowed on the adventure playgrounds except when supervised by an adult at recess time. Students are asked to report to the office when feeling ill or in the event of an emergency. SUPERVISION: SENIOR SCHOOL For safety reasons, no student is allowed in the schoolyard or school buildings unsupervised before 7:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m. STUDENT HEALTH MEDICAL FORM As part of our Safe School Policy, it is essential that parents with a student new to TFS complete a medical form and parents of returning students update their child's medical form every year, before the first day of school. This confidential form is retained electronically and used in the event of an emergency. The form can be found and completed online through the Parent Portal. Parents and guardians of children placed in TFS childcare locations, including Jardin d'éveil (toddler) and PK, must complete and sign all relevant paperwork at the school, as stipulated by childcare legislation. Individual medical concerns should be brought to the attention of and discussed clearly with the Branch Principal before the start of school. Please alert your Branch Office in the event of any change in your child's medical condition during the year.
