epending on the message, art can be divisive. If it's
political, for example, it may not be appreciated by different groups of people, so
it can divide them." Hannah H., Arts Prefect, isn't one to shy away from a discussion
about the power of the arts. "However, it is freeing to be able to express yourself," she
continues, "whether that be through work that's controversial, or better still when it's
a representation of your own self-discovery. There's a lot of catharsis there."
Do the arts divide or unite? What is appropriation? How do the visual, dramatic,
poetic and musical arts help us develop an international perspective? These are just
some of the questions asked of TFS students and educators. Not surprisingly, their
answers were varied, intriguing and hopeful.
