Window the World The arts at TFS help students define their international perspective 17 TFS ENTRE NOUS 2019 "I sat staring, staring, staring - half lost, learning a new language or rather the same language in a different dialect. So still were the big woods where I sat, sound might not yet have been born." —EMILY CARR epending on the message, art can be divisive. If it's political, for example, it may not be appreciated by different groups of people, so it can divide them." Hannah H., Arts Prefect, isn't one to shy away from a discussion about the power of the arts. "However, it is freeing to be able to express yourself," she continues, "whether that be through work that's controversial, or better still when it's a representation of your own self-discovery. There's a lot of catharsis there." Do the arts divide or unite? What is appropriation? How do the visual, dramatic, poetic and musical arts help us develop an international perspective? These are just some of the questions asked of TFS students and educators. Not surprisingly, their answers were varied, intriguing and hopeful. " D By Anita Griffiths
