All-round development L'élève, être humain et citoyen A dictée champion EDWARD M., in Grade 6 at the West Campus, finished first place in Ontario and third internationally at La Dictée P.G.L. (Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie). The purpose of the dictée is to raise young people's awareness of the world's challenges in an engaging way, while also helping them practise their French at a high level. Grade 1 students launch la p'tite radio THIS YEAR, our Grade 1 students launched their first web radio, "la p'tite radio," which helps students practise French and produce their own news show. Rising Golf Star AFTER QUALIFYING FOR OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) for golf this fall, Shae- Lynn S. travelled to Windsor to represent TFS in the two-day provincial championships, coming home with a top five finish! TFS REACHES PLATINUM STATUS! TFS HAS AGAIN RECEIVED accolades from EcoSchools thanks to our students and faculty who worked hard to achieve platinum status this past year. To be awarded platinum, a school must have been awarded gold in at least three of the past six years, continue to demonstrate their commitment to the gold-level standards plus exceed them to receive 20 platinum points. Musical Extravaganza OUR ENSEMBLE OF 75 HIGHLY TALENTED MUSICIANS from Grade 7 to Level V had a tremendous year of development. They qualified for their fourth straight year at the Ontario Band Association provincial competition to take part in national finals. Competing at one of the most advanced categories in which a school can enter, the B500 level, our band achieved our very first GOLD award and their performance was absolutely stellar! DIS-MOI DIX MOTS – JUNIOR SCHOOL LAST YEAR, Toronto's Grade 3B class tied for first place in France's cultural ministry's Dis-moi dix mots contest. During the competition, French students worldwide are given 10 words that they need to integrate into a story; last year's words focused on voice and sound. Over six weeks, the groups explored words such as accent, bagou, griot and placoter, researching their sound, usage and meaning. A school day in the ravine IT WAS AN UNFORGETTABLE DAY OF LEARNING for our Grade 1 students in TFS' Don Valley ravine this October. The students practised math, reading, oral language, science and more, surrounded by serene nature. 6 TFS ENTRE NOUS 2019
