Life at TFS
AUDREY was enrolled at TFS in Grade 5 when her family
moved to Toronto from the United States. Her parents
were keen to ensure that their daughter would be fluent in
both of Canada's official languages.
A member of the Scholars Guild since Grade 7, Audrey
derives intellectual stimulation from mathematics as well
as English and the arts. She loves to write and likes to
read about people's experiences; but she is equally drawn
to math for its clarity and logic. Audrey is a sensitive
musician who speaks passionately about music as an art
form that can offer beauty to a world torn apart by strife.
Her chosen instrument is the clarinet, which she began to
learn just prior to her arrival at TFS. Creative and talented,
Audrey was one of a few teenagers in the Toronto Youth
Symphony Orchestra. Yet her focus on music didn't
prevent her from wanting to make her mark on TFS as its
First Citizen/Première Citoyenne. As part of her long-term
service project, Audrey chose to volunteer at the
Children's Garden at the Evergreen Brick Works. She
thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work and have
fun with the children in a natural setting.
"The people at
TFS gave me
the space and
encouragement
I needed to
demand more
of the world and
of myself than
what was easy or
acceptable."
