Parents' Handbook 2021– 2022 41 - committing an act of vandalism that causes damage to school property or to property located on the premises of the school and other schools. The range of consequences that TFS will consider as the disciplinary response to serious student misconduct includes: - temporary or permanent removal from a school activity; - a special program or recess to complete work or a special assignment involving problem-solving and/or a reflective activity; - a verbal reminder of appropriate behaviour; - detention; - removal from class for a period of time; - community service; - loss of privileges; - repair/restitution for damaged or missing property; - a behavioural contract; - in-school suspension; - consultation with a Vice-Principal, Principal and/or other members of the support team; - formal suspension from school from between one school day to no more than 20 school days. In these instances, conditions for return to school will be discussed with parents and caregivers and students, in accordance with the school policy; and/or, - expulsion from the school. At the discretion of TFS, a student may be denied re-registration for the subsequent academic year, for reasons including, but not limited to, one or more acts of misconduct as set out above. 2. Discipline Process In determining whether an offence/situation of non- compliance has been committed and what sanction should be applied, TFS will employ procedures that: - are in proportion to the severity of the alleged offence; - ensure that a student and their parents and caregivers are aware of the complaint against the student; - take into account the previous history of the student and all other relevant factors; - ensure that a student has the opportunity to present fully and fairly their version of events and an explanation, and to have these taken into account by the decision-maker; and, - ensure that the decisions will be made in a fair and impartial way. If it is felt that a major violation of the TFS Code of Conduct has taken place (i.e., a suspendable offence), the Principal or Vice-Principal will review the finding with the Head of School. The Principal or Vice-Principal will contact the parent(s)/guardian(s) of the student to discuss how the school will deal with the incident of non-compliance to the Code of Conduct. In the case of suspensions, parents/caregivers may request a review of the decision in writing to the Head of School within 10 school days of the decision. All assigned suspensions will be served and entered into the student's record. In some cases, the record of suspension may be removed following an appeal, or at a future date after discussions and a review with members of the school's branch leadership team and the Head of School, providing the student does not further violate the TFS Code of Conduct. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY HIGHLIGHTS TFS asks that all students, volunteers and parents/ guardians obey all laws/regulations and the Information Technology Acceptable Use Policy in connection with the use of TFS' computers, email, Internet and intranet access, databases and other computer and communication systems, including without limitation cloud-based servers that are accessible through TFS' computers (hereinafter collectively referred to as the "Computer Network").
