Parents' Handbook 2022– 2023 13 If you are interested in using the system, please use the code 85959 for the Toronto campus, or 85957 for the West Campus. WALKING WEDNESDAYS To promote walking, cycling or the use of other active transportation for the school journey wherever possible, the Toronto campus encourages all age-appropriate students to participate in a Walking Wednesdays program. Please consider making the effort to walk, cycle, scooter or take transit to school. It establishes healthy habits for life. The proven benefits of walking to school include: - Helping meet the Canadian Physical Activity Guideline of 60 minutes of daily exercise recommended for children ages 5 - 17; - Arriving alert and ready to learn; - Less stress, greater happiness; - Less pollution; and - Reduced traffic congestion at and around the school. PARTIES AND INVITATIONS INVITATION POLICY We encourage parents to be mindful for birthday parties so that no child from the class is excluded. IN-CLASS CELEBRATIONS We ask parents to make prior arrangements with the teacher when sending food to be shared in class. Remember all treats must be nut-free, and not homemade (please refer to our anaphylaxis policy). For assistance, please email catering@tfs.ca or call Chartwells at ext. 4550. COMMUNICATING TO PARENTS TFS communicates primarily by email with our parents; please ensure we always have your most current email address. Please update your Household Profile in the Parent Portal (Veracross) for any changes with respect to address, telephone numbers (including business and emergency numbers), email addresses and any other relevant personal information as soon as these changes are known. If both parents leave the Metropolitan Toronto area, the school must be given written notification in advance, including who has been assigned responsibility for the child(ren). PARENT PORTAL TFS has a new Parent Portal (Veracross) to help ensure that parents are better connected to their child's schedule and progress inside and outside of the classroom. Content includes: - Calendars; - Consent and registration forms; - Staff directory; - Student account information. OTHER BRANCH-LEVEL COMMUNICATIONS Weekly Principal Email Each branch Principal sends out a weekly Communiqué email specific to the activities of that branch. PARENT INFORMATION SESSIONS Throughout the school year we hold several information meetings: - Orientation and Welcome Back days for students and parents before classes start; - Parent information evenings occur in September, for both the Toronto campus and the West Campus. During these sessions, teachers explain their programs and class procedures; - Curriculum presentations by grade, especially at transition stages; - Parent-teacher interviews in late October to early December, and February to March, for all branches; - Student-led conferences at La p'tite école, the Junior School and West Campus in May;
