Parents' Handbook 2022– 2023 21 OVERDUE AND LOST LIBRARY MATERIALS The fine for circulating collection material is 25 cents per day per overdue item. Borrowing privileges may be suspended if library materials are not returned when due and fines remain unpaid. Please review the fines at the Penturn library website. In case of loss or damage to library materials, please notify the Librarian. Student accounts will be charged for lost or damaged books. LANGUAGE LAB AND RESOURCE CENTRE (LLRC) The LLRC houses advanced digital software and a computer system that handles high-definition audio and voice recording. We aim for active learners instead of passive actors. As TFS emphasizes student-centred learning to facilitate a student's development of skills, we provide them with the experience of second-language learning in close-to-real situations, and opportunities to interact with peers and other online resources. These varied resources heighten each student's precision and confidence when communicating socially. We encourage students to visit the LLRC and recording studios to rehearse their oral exams, and English or French poems for class or competitive presentations. With our software, we can import media files, digitize new content, build exercises, organize assignments, track classes, store student responses and record students during pair activities. Email: languagelab@tfs.ca INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY The integration of information technology into the curriculum at TFS is a priority. Students have access to a wide array of technology, including laptops and desktops, iPads, 3D printers, digital cameras, video production equipment, robotics and interactive projectors in every classroom. Laptops, chargers, video cameras, audio recorders and LCD projectors are available on loan through the Senior School Library system. Each TFS user works within our campus-wide network and has ubiquitous access to a secure, high-speed Internet connection. In 2022-2023, students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 1 are assigned an iPad for school use. Students from Grade 2 to Grade 4 are assigned a Chromebook and Grade 5 students a MacBook Air. Each TFS student has a password-protected TFS.ca account for accessing online resources and receives in-class digital citizenship lessons. All TFS teachers are equipped with a MacBook Air laptop and iPad with stylus to support integration of technology driven by pedagogy. In 2022-23, Grade 6 to Level V students will again participate in a Bring your Own Device (BYOD) one-to-one program. The laptop requirement is either a Mac OS X or Windows laptop with minimum 8GB of RAM. Laptop loans are available through the library if needed; please email questions or concerns to byod@tfs.ca.
