WHERE ARE THEY NOW? MARISSA THIEL '08 MBA Candidate, Harvard University Cambridge, USA Marissa studied art at Williams College, Massachusetts while competing in the Federation of International Skiing until 2013. She is currently studying for her MBA at Harvard Business School. ERIC HIRSH '04 Toronto, ON Eric was an accomplished basketball player during his time at TFS, winning the Senior Athlete of the Year award in 2002. He holds a B.Sc. from McMaster University in Hamilton. " The sports education program at TFS was critical to my success in high school, and the S.W. Karrys Family Scholarship gave me the flexibility to excel in my swimming career after TFS. Becoming a national champion in the 400-metre individual medley race at the 2012 Canadian Inter-university Sports Championships was unforgettable." MADLEN O'CONNOR '15 Medical Student, Queen's University MS in Human Nutrition, Columbia University Kingston, ON Madlen participated in a range of sports while at TFS, including track, cross-country, volleyball and basketball. She started playing competitive squash at the age of seven, and in 2015 was competing at the Women's Junior World Squash Championships in the Netherlands. The team secured fifth place, the best finish for Team Canada and a personal highlight for this student-athlete. Madlen says that winning the S.W. Karrys Family Scholarship at graduation motivated her to pursue elite-level sports in university. Madlen attended Columbia University (New York City) and graduated in 2019. She played varsity squash while at Columbia, becoming team captain during her final two years and leading the team to its highest national finish in her senior year. She capped her varsity career as an All-American and All-Ivy NCAA player. Having recently completed her masters in human nutrition at Columbia, Madlen will be attending Queen's School of Medicine in the fall of 2020.
