24 Parents' Handbook 2024– 2025 JARDIN D'ÉVEIL TO GRADE 5 Parents of children from Jardin d'éveil through Grade 5 will receive detailed report cards at the end of December and the end of June. Parent-teacher interviews are held for all students in October/ November and February/March. Student-led conferences and three-way conferences for Jardin and PK through Grade 5 are held in March or May. Report cards address a child's attitude, study habits, effort and progress as well as marks. In addition to these formal reports, teachers will contact parents whenever appropriate. You are also encouraged to contact teachers at any time. In order to allow you to follow your child's progress on a regular basis, teachers send home some assignments and notebooks for your review and or signature. If at any time you have concerns regarding your child's progress, please feel free to ask for an interview with the relevant teacher. Should you require additional assistance, the branch office will refer you to the appropriate person. GRADE 6 TO LEVEL V From Grade 6 to Level IV, reports are issued three times a year, in December, March and June. In Level V, reports are issued in November, January and April, which are communicated to universities. Specific IB-predicted grades are communicated to the Level V parents in April. DIPLOMAS TFS offers a number of diplomas upon successful completion of coursework within the Ontario and French curricula, and the International Baccalaureate Program. TEST PROVINCIAL DE COMPÉTENCES LINGUISTIQUES (TPCL) All Level II students, and any older students new to Ontario, must write the Test provincial de compétences linguistiques (TPCL). The successful "pass" of this test is required for graduation. To ensure your child's participation, once the date of this test is confirmed in the spring, we ask that parents avoid scheduling any appointments or vacation days on that day. LE DIPLÔME NATIONAL DU BREVET DES COLLÈGES In Level II, students may elect to sit the Diplôme National du Brevet des Collèges, a program involving external examinations in French, history, geography and citizenship, mathematics and sciences. It allows our students to measure their accomplishments within a network of schools accredited by the Ministry of Education in France throughout the world. TFS uses Brevet results as a summative assessment to inform our teaching and learning. DIPLÔME D'ÉTUDES SECONDAIRES DE L'ONTARIO (DESO) TFS designs its courses of study to cover the requirements for the DESO (the French equivalent of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma). Students receive a DESO at graduation, upon successful completion of the Ontario curriculum. INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMAS The International Baccalaureate Diploma is pursued by all Level IV and V students. It offers a comprehensive, balanced and highly respected pre-university curriculum, which allows students to develop individual interests and relate classroom experiences to the outside world. All students must take two languages, a social science, a mathematics, an experimental science and an elective, which can include a second science. In addition, all students write an Extended Essay, are involved in CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) and take the Theory of Knowledge course. A bilingual IB diploma may be earned based on specific course requirements in French; students pursuing an additional course delivered in French will also receive the advanced bilingual IB diploma. TFS DIPLOMAS The school grants a TFS Diploma and a TFS Bilingual Diploma at graduation to those students who qualify.
