ENTRE NOUS 66 Dear Friends, e 2022–23 school year provided a varie of much anticipated opportunities for our communi to reconnect. It has been truly revitalizing to celebrate a number of milestones as a TFS family. We were exceedingly happy to see familiar faces and renew old friendships. Meeting new members of our communi also brought a great surge of energy and led to many promising connections. Message from the Foundation President and Foundation Board Chair At the TFS Foundation, we continue to work in concert with school leadership towards a thriving future for TFS. The TFS Foundation is dedicated to supporting the school by fostering community engagement through various programs and by raising funds to support essential initiatives. This year, we are pleased to combine our annual report with the school's main publication, Entre Nous, to share our stories and collective achievements. As we kicked off a special year celebrating the 60th anniversary of TFS, we were happy to come back together in person for both new and familiar events. In the fall, we paid tribute to the generosity of our community at our annual donor reception, where we announced a $1-million commitment from the Lassonde family and unveiled a remarkable 70 new names on our Wall of Distinction. With spring came the chance to celebrate in style with our community at our 60th anniversary gala. The Diamond Soirée will be remembered as both the party of the decade and an emphatic fundraising success! Thanks to overwhelming sponsorships and all who purchased tickets, the event raised over $1 million, with net proceeds of $790,000 going towards one of the most ambitious expansions in the history of our beloved TFS. A special thank you to the organizing committee of the Diamond Soirée; their hard work and dedication made our gala an extraordinarily memorable event. On the day of our Grade 5 graduation ceremony, we were pleased to commemorate the renaming of the Senior School gymnasium as Gymnase Miedler Mulroney in honour of the Mulroney family's exemplary generosity and leadership. A few days later, we were also thrilled to welcome back over 200 alumni and former staff for the first in-person alumni reunion since 2019. From all reports, those who attended had a blast rekindling connections and learning about the present and future of the school. The alumni reunion is one of many programs run by the TFS Foundation in partnership with the TFS Alumni Association to help our alumni reconnect with each other and our students. The end of the year was marked by some of our annual traditions that proved to have historic significance. One of the highlights was a Senior School assembly speech from TFS parent, entrepreneur, activist, and a dragon on CBC's Dragons' Den, Wes Hall. He spoke about his journey from poverty, growing up in a tin shack in rural Jamaica, to the heights of the corporate world on Bay Street in Toronto. Many students expressed that this was the most inspiring assembly they had ever attended. Christine and Wes Hall also made a lead gift to the 2023 Class Fund. Their generosity was followed by other parents, resulting in 77 per cent participation from Level V families and $211,069 pledged, the largest amount raised to date. Our deepest thanks to the Class of 2023 Fund Committee, whose efforts led to this record-breaking success. The funds will allow us to create the first scholarship reserved exclusively to support an international student coming to TFS. All that was accomplished this year would of course not have been possible without the generosity and commitment of our community. Thank you for making our 60th anniversary an outstanding year! In 2022–23, TFS and both boards made great strides in defining the strategic direction for the school and developing plans for major new facilities. As the TFS Foundation focuses our efforts on raising the funds to realize this vision, we look forward to announcing our progress in the year ahead. Sander Grieve Chair, TFS Foundation Board of Directors Cathy Yanosik President, TFS Foundation
