VIEWBOOK 9 Learning through a consistent framework At TFS, our students learn both the curricula of France and Ontario (see next page). But they do so using one single approach: the IB framework. From PK to Level V (Grade 12), the IB framework offers a continuum of learning. In other words, we teach the Ontario and French content under the same umbrella—that of the IB. Rigorous and globally driven, the IB framework meets our school's educational philosophy, and allows us to connect to our dual identity as a French- and Ontario- based school, fostering a bilingual, internationally minded perspective. And the combination simply makes us even more unique: we are the only school in the world that offers the curricula of Ontario and France within the framework of the IB. Developing lifelong skills Does working independently and collaboratively while meeting deadlines sound familiar to you? These essential skills are often less emphasized in traditional educational programs. By contrast, an IB education equips students with the skills and attitudes they will use throughout their lifetimes. Guided by inquiry-based learning and the IB Learner Profile, our students are encouraged to be confident, reflective, open-minded and always curious from a young age. The IB not only enhances academic achievement but also fosters strong character development. Our students enter their first year of university well-prepared and ready to face the world. Receiving an internationally recognized diploma A testament to our innovative and international mindset, TFS became the first school in Toronto to make the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program mandatory in the early 1990s. At TFS, students tackle the IB Diploma Program during their final two years, when it transitions to its own curriculum. They can choose courses in either English or French, but must take both, making them eligible for the Bilingual IB Diploma. By adding more French courses to the mix, students can qualify for the Advanced Bilingual IB Diploma. The IB provides exceptional preparation for our students to thrive in university and beyond. This powerhouse program delivers an exceptional final two years of education to our students, while also providing them with key academic and life experiences, resulting in an outstanding level of preparedness and attributes that will take them into university and into their professional lives. Take Alex Cheng '07. She not only excelled at university, majoring in computer science at Smith College, but is now an engineering leader with a global music streaming company, an industry that was in its infancy when she graduated from TFS. "The breadth and rigour of the IB program has helped shape who I am today. It provided me with skills that made it comfortable to enter university and mindsets that allowed me to gain entry into a new career with a tech-based company that is at the advanced edge of our current society."
