As one of the three priorities of TFS' strategic plan, STEAM is pivotal in shaping the future inventors, innovators and pioneers from within our school communi. At TFS we empower our students to explore their interests, allowing each to become deeply passionate and dedicated to their STEAM pursuits. Luc is a prospective engineer with boundless curiosity that fuels his fascination with the applications of chemistry, mechanics and engineering. He looks at the world from a STEAM-driven perspective and hopes to continuously nurture his passions and his mindset. A budding mathematician, Caitlyn leveraged the abundance of STEAM opportunities available at the Junior School to develop her passion for math and more. Now a Grade 7 student at the Senior School, she wants to pursue every chance she has to further explore her favourite subjects. LUC D., LEVEL IV AT TFS SINCE GRADE 1 Favourite subjects at school: Chemistry and physics Why: "The school provides all the resources to feed my passion." In chemistry, Luc finds it fascinating to observe all the reactions and their applications in real life. For example, he is amazed by "the reaction of hydrogen combustion that is used in space rockets." Career perspective: Definitely something related to engineering, but who knows? The possibilities are immense and the world evolves so fast. Starring in: 3D printing. If not at the robotics club, chances are Luc is around the 3D printers, teaching Grade 7 and Level I students how to use them, or printing for the Junior Design Club (he is a volunteer) and responding to other requests. Invested in: Basically everything related to STEAM at TFS. Looking for Luc at the school? Check out the robotics club where he is probably busy working to assemble robots and gain experience in mechanical design and engineering. Philosophy on new technologies: The more we invent, the better it is. "Even though new technologies raise new problems, they first bring new solutions. It's something we discuss a lot, especially in the debate club." CAITLYN Y., GRADE 6 AT TFS SINCE SK Favourite subjects at school: Mathematics (but not geometry!) and English Why: Her love for addition and multiplication. Caitlyn especially likes doing them mentally. Career perspective: Veterinarian, because of her love for animals. Cats are her favourite. She has one named Sunshine but, to her disappointment, her parents don't allow her to practise medicine on him. Starring in: Math contests. Whether it is the Beaver Computing Challenge or the Concours Castor, Caitlyn has mastered the logic behind those tests. She received a 60 out of 60 in last year's Beaver contest! Invested in: The Robotics Club. "We build robots from scratch, then we code them so they can follow a specific trajectory or have them pick up something." Passion for: Coding. "I love using my brain as well as understanding the logic of coding." By Ronan Le Guern 15 TFS
