TFS Entrance Scholarship Program | 4 The biggest change in my life since participating in the scholarship program has been my growth in confidence and sense of purpose. It pushed me to challenge myself academically and personally, and taught me the value of perseverance and community. My favourite class this year was IB Theory of Knowledge. It helped me connect what I learn to the world around me and encouraged me to think critically, question assumptions and see multiple perspectives. As the child of Algerian immigrants, I value an international education deeply. I've come to understand different cultures and ideas and navigate between worlds with empathy, curiosity and adaptability, skills I know will shape my future. One of my favourite moments this year was The Red Tie Ceremony. It felt like both an ending and a beginning, and gave me a chance to reflect on how far I've come, the friendships I've built and the transformation I've experienced at TFS. — Level V Student, enrolled 2019 One of my most memorable moments this year was speaking at the TEDxTFS Talk on Canada's potential as a global superpower. I shared lessons from the rise of the Asian Tigers and explored how Canada could adopt long-term thinking, innovation and strategic planning to shape a stronger future. That day brought together everything I've been working toward: critical thinking, communication and leadership. For the first time, I didn't just see myself as a student, but as someone ready to contribute to something bigger. That confidence inspired me to launch two new clubs next year: M+ for advanced math, and France in French for history and culture. As a new student, I made it a priority to get involved, volunteering at events like Community Day. These opportunities helped me connect with others and contribute to our school. Whether I pursue law, finance or engineering, I hope to build bridges across borders. One day, I'd like to become Prime Minister, a goal that requires knowledge, strategy and global understanding, all of which I'm developing at TFS. — Grade 7 Student, enrolled 2024 One teacher who stood out to me was my French teacher, Mme Deng. At the start of the year, I was anxious about the Brevet exams, but her guidance helped me build the skills I needed to feel more confident. I also joined the Model UN club, where I discovered a passion for diplomacy and it helped me improve my public speaking and collaboration skills. It reminded me that stepping outside my comfort zone leads to growth. One of my most memorable days was the first day of school and meeting new people who made me feel welcome and helped ease my nerves. That day reflects my experience at TFS: even in unfamiliar environments, I've always felt supported and encouraged to take on new challenges. TFS has given me the confidence to explore new interests and push myself. After graduating, I plan to study health sciences and eventually pursue a career in medicine, working to ensure citizens in rural areas receive the medical care they need. — Level II Student, enrolled 2022 My favourite subjects this year were chemistry and biology because I love learning about how the world works. My chemistry teacher, Ms. Khanna is exceptional and her classes are always something I look forward to. She makes concepts easy to understand and motivates us to do our best. I also stepped out of my comfort zone by joining the Dance Show. It was a lot of fun, and I met new people who were welcoming and encouraging. I'm really glad I took that step. Despite some challenges, I'm proud of my progress in both Spanish and math. In math, I finished the year as one of the top students, and in Spanish, I improved my skills and ended on a positive note. Coming from Syria and having lived in Egypt, I value the international perspective at TFS and the opportunity to learn more about my own history and culture. The scholarship has provided me with meaningful connections and an education that feels unique and important. In the future, I hope to study chemical engineering or health sciences at university. — Level IV Student, enrolled 2020 At the start of this year, I really struggled with confidence around oral presentations, but thanks to the support of my French teachers, Mme Faci and Mme Daval, I improved a lot. I eventually developed the courage to speak at Black History Month and the end of the year assemblies, something I never imagined I'd be able to do. I learned that even when something feels impossible, I can overcome fear by preparing and pushing through. As an immigrant, I've come to value having an international perspective. At TFS, I've learned about how different countries approach issues and how global systems work. It's helped me see the world in a more connected way. One of my favourite days this year was Community Day. I had the chance to guide a new student and share what I learned when I was in her shoes. It was a fun, full-circle moment that reminded me how far I've come. — Level II Student, enrolled 2023
