Siena Siena S. S. Grade 7 WHEN VISUAL ARTS TEACHER, Ms. Hatchell, offered Siena S. an opportunity in Grade 7 to participate in the 2016 Our Safe Spaces Project exhibition, Siena immediately said yes. The Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival provided students an opportunity to exhibit in a professional gallery, depicting spaces and places in their lives where they feel accepted, comfortable and safe. With more than 500 student submissions, Siena's photography was chosen to be featured. Grade 2 Gabriel Gabriel C. C. Sarah Sarah M. M. SARAH M., Level I, was honoured with three ISTAR Awards from the Aga Khan Foundation: two golds in Academic Excellence and Community Service Honours, and third place in The Arts and Culture. The national ISTAR competition recognizes those within the Ismaili community who demonstrate excellence, meritocracy and social responsibility, and acknowledges the achievements of high school students. Level I LAST SPRING, Grade 2 student Gabriel C. volunteered at an orphanage in Bangalore, India. With a local cook, he helped prepare dinner, using local ingredients, for 40 children. Gabriel said, "These children do not have a mother or a father, they do not have any money, but have a smile on their faces and want to make the world a better place. Why do we complain about things if we have so much? In the future, I want to help more people in need." He was so moved by the experience that he shared it with his classmates as part of a presentation revolving around cooperation. Gabriel's teachers appreciate his philanthropic nature. 9 TFS ENTRE NOUS 2016
