Which speaker surprised you the most? Why? Mihail K.: :KHQ5HEHFFDÀUVWPHQWLRQHGWKDW her family friend, Dr. Lepofsky, would be able to speak to the delegates, I did not know what to expect. I read about him and was impressed by his credentials and determination as an advocate for the disabled. I did not expect his presentation to be as engaging and humorous as it was. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard how Dr. Lepofsky had become a fan favourite amongst both staff and students. Which speaker had the most impact on you? Laura B.: Emmanuel Jal completely blew me out of the water. I knew that he was going to be inspiring, but I had no idea how much fun we would have. Not only did he communicate his incredible story as a child soldier, he wanted us to present our opinions. His presentation encompassed what we hoped everyone would take away from the week – that they should always stand for what they believe in, that their voice deserves to be heard, and to always aim as high as you can. Did you see any moments among the delegates that showed that the conference had had an impact on them? Nathan D.: At many points, student delegates would tell me how amazing the conference was. What I found fascinating was seeing the student delegates engaging with the speakers. It showed that they really liked them, especially when they were asking detailed questions about their speeches. This showed how they were all listening to the speakers and that they truly wanted to be there. What do you hope the delegates took away with them and what would you like them to do post-conference? Rebecca A.: I hope that the conference inspired the delegates to act within their own communities and pursue their passions. I hope that it enabled the delegates to identify their values and priorities, and taught them something new. I hope they recognize the importance of being a leader in the community, and how it is possible to accomplish something VLJQLÀFDQWHYHQDWRXU\RXQJDJH By taking action to host this conference, you really exemplified our motto. What advice would you give other students about being a citizen who acts? Nathan D.: I think students should try to get involved in different activities that interest them. For me, I'm interested in leadership activities, whereas others are more interested in sports or the arts. My advice to students is that there's no harm in getting involved with your school community. Being a citizen who DFWVKHOSV\RXLQWHUDFWZLWKRWKHUVVROLGLÀHV and makes friendships, and allows you to be creative. "I knew that if we could impact just one person strongly enough to make them want to inspire someone else, it would create a positive chain reaction of kindness and inspiration." 18 TFS ENTRE NOUS 2018
