She reflects our values of integrity, discernment, respect and engagement, and it was an honour to present our Volunteer of Distinction Award to her this past June. When their daughter, Siena, was old enough to start school in 2006, Josie and her husband Jeff knew they wanted her to attend a coed independent school. They were immediately impressed by the language opportunities available at TFS, the diversity of the community and the beautiful Toronto campus. She joined the Parents' Association (PA) as a Class Representative without hesitation and, over the years, she has taken on a variety of roles on the PA, from Junior School Branch Coordinator, Chair of the Comité de bienvenue, member of the Kermesse Committee and Vice-President, to her current role as Senior School Branch Coordinator. Josie is also actively involved in supporting the school's fundraising initiatives and is a member of the Advancement Committee. She notes that, "as my involvement on the PA grew, I learned that tuition alone is not enough. The school needs both funding and volunteer support to realize its goals." While working on and seeing the impact of the Soaring Beyond campaign was a highlight for Josie, it was the first Carrousel des nations in 2010 that she remembers most fondly. "It was amazing to build this event from the ground up. In addition to raising much-needed funds," she says, "it involved so many students, brought families together and highlighted the cultural diversity at the school. It was a signature event for TFS." Looking back at the list of past recipients, Josie says she was "overwhelmed and honoured to receive the Volunteer of Distinction Award and to be part of this group." She encourages all parents to get involved to the best of their abilities. "Even if you can only volunteer for one pizza lunch," she says, "every hour makes a difference and is so valuable to the PA and the school."
