Parents' Handbook 2019 – 2020 13 PARKING AND TRAFFIC FLOW Toronto Campus Your co-operation in safe driving and parking on campus is appreciated. Fire route enforcement: The school must maintain a clear access at all times to fire routes for emergency vehicles. Please observe the posted fire routes, noted in the illustration on this page. Vehicles that are parked in fire routes may now be fined by police or bylaw officers ($250 per occurrence) or towed off the premises; fines, towing and impound storage of vehicles are the responsibility of the vehicle owner. While briefly stopping for student drop-off and pickup is permitted, parents are strongly urged not to park in the fire routes. - Keep to the one-way system and stay in your car to avoid congestion in the busy traffic zone; - Never leave your vehicle unattended when double parked or in the pick-up/drop-off area. Wait for the traffic to advance to safely pick up/drop off your child. Have your child's name card displayed on your dashboard for Junior School and La p'tite école pick-ups; - As per the Toronto bylaw, and for health and safety reasons, do not leave your car engine idling. The bylaw prohibits idling for more than one minute; - As per Ontario's bylaw, no handheld devices may be used while driving on school property; - The maximum speed limit on school property is 10 km/h; - Cars parked illegally may be tagged and/or towed; - Do not block our neighbours' driveways; - Please drive slowly and be aware of pedestrians. Mildenhall Road - Mildenhall Road is a ticketed (No Parking) zone. - Stopping or parking is prohibited in front of the school on Mildenhall Road between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.; - In the morning: we encourage you to drop off your child at the main entrance to La p'tite école, where a staff member will escort your child inside; - In the afternoon: park in the Mildenhall playground (only after 3:15 p.m.) and 296 Lawrence Avenue parking area. The school requests that parents pick up children from La p'tite école first, as their school day ends at 3:30 p.m. Students are supervised until 4:00 p.m., giving parents/ caregivers a half hour to pick up their child, thereby easing traffic at the immediate end of the school day. Since teachers must concentrate fully on ensuring the children's safety, we ask you not to converse at length with the teachers on duty at dismissal time. If discussion with the teacher is required, please arrange an appointment.
