12 Parents' Handbook 2019 – 2020 Detailed information and downloadable forms are available on the homepage of the Consulat Général de France à Toronto website at www.consulfrance-toronto.org. ACCIDENT INSURANCE Optional coverage is available from IAP Kids Plus Accident Insurance. This may interest some families as primary or supplementary insurance. To obtain more information or purchase insurance, please go to www.iapkidsplus.com. TUITION REFUND INSURANCE The school strongly recommends that parents take advantage of the optional Tuition Refund Insurance Plan. This program offers parents an opportunity to insure fees in the event of student withdrawal or dismissal, provided the student has attended more than 14 consecutive calendar days commencing with the student's first class day of attendance in the academic year. Details are in the Registration Guide: Terms and Conditions. PARENT VOLUNTEERS TFS loves its volunteers! In fact, we depend on their participation during school events, on class trips, and through a variety of committees. The goal of TFS' Vulnerable Sector Policy (VSP) is to ensure the safety of all TFS students. All of our volunteers (parents, caregivers, community members, etc.) are required to follow this policy, prior to volunteering for the school in any capacity. See the Community Policies section for details. TRANSPORTATION AND SAFETY ALWAYS FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF OUR PARKING ATTENDANTS. Remind your child regularly of the potential traffic hazards and have him/her follow the established routines: - Cross at crosswalks or designated areas; - Walk, do not run; always look both ways before crossing the driveway; - Hold hands; - Use the passenger-side door; - Be aware of others; - Never use wireless devices while walking; - Phone use while driving should be hands-free only; - Arrive and leave the premises promptly; - No playing at any time during the dismissal period; - Do not walk between cars in a kiss'n ride lane. At all times: - Follow our parking attendants' instructions; - Observe all parking and traffic signs and regulations; - Do not turn in neighbours' driveways or make U-turns; - Be courteous and patient; your children are watching! PEDESTRIAN SAFETY Toronto campus: By TTC: students arriving or departing should cross Lawrence Avenue with the crossing guard at the corner of Mildenhall Road or at the 318 Lawrence traffic lights. On foot: students should use the campus walkways. By car: students should enter and leave from the side of the car closest to the walkway. If a child is arriving in a taxi at La p'tite école or the Junior School, the taxi driver should bring the child to the Branch Office. Under no circumstances should any students walk between parked cars or cross driveways! BICYCLES, SCOOTERS AND SKATEBOARDS Under provincial law, all children under the age of 18 must wear a helmet while biking. Similarly, TFS strongly recommends that students wear helmets while using a scooter or skateboarding. All staff and students are expected to walk their bikes and scooters or carry their skateboards while on school property. Bike racks are available in front of the Senior School, to the west side of the Junior School, in front of La p'tite école and next to the administration building (306 Lawrence) on the Toronto campus. There is a bicycle rack at the West Campus as well.
