Academic ambition Une école exigeante DEBATING WITH THE PROVINCE'S BEST TFS HOSTED THE Ontario Student Debate Union for the Ontario British Parliamentary (BP) debating championships this fall. The tournament welcomed 52 teams from across Ontario, including 36 senior division teams and 16 teams in the U15 division. Each team consisted of two debaters from each school. Students completed four rounds of impromptu debate in the BP Format on the Saturday, followed by semi- finals and finals on the Sunday. TFS' teams were commended for their capable performances, as they debated against more experienced teams. Science Olympics Win THREE GRADE 6 STUDENTS, Graham B., Elise L. and Julia K., competed at the Independent School Science Olympics last April. Held at Crescent School for Grade 4, 5 and 6 students, they completed a number of science-related challenges. Our team demonstrated their scientific skills and knowledge, and came in first place. Concours et festival d'art oratoire LAST MAY, four TFS students placed in the top three at the Concours et festival d'art oratoire, organized by Canadian Parents for French and the Ontario Modern Language Teachers' Association. They competed against more than 300 students from 22 school boards and 11 independent schools across Ontario. Congratulations to West Campus Grade 7 student, Sébastien F., who placed first for his age group; to Shannon E., who placed third in the francophone category for Grades 11 and 12; to Maggie W., who placed second in the same category for Grade 9 and 10 students; and to Kimia K., who placed first in the immersion category for Grades 9 and 10. Brevet Success LAST JUNE, our Level II students sat the exams for the Diplôme national du brevet, which is granted to students in France upon successful completion of the collège years. An astounding 85 of our 90 students elected to take on this challenge, achieving a 99% pass rate. 5 TFS ENTRE NOUS 2019
