TFS 09 A grand performance for our musicians After a challenging audition process, 14 TFS students were selected to take part in the 2019 Conference of Independent Schools Music Festival (CISMF). This prestigious, non-competitive celebration of music fosters a high level of musicianship and artistic expression among students from the 48 CIS schools. Every year, this experience culminates in a superb springtime finale at Roy Thomson Hall, as the musicians, with a well-known conductor, perform before an audience of more than 2,000. Casting ballots in the classroom On Election Day this past October, like other citizens across the country, West Campus and Junior School students exercised their democratic right and elected representatives to their respective Assemblée des Citoyens (student council). This newly introduced council will give pupils a voice in decisions related to student life. Mental health advocacy Sarah L., Level V, has been dedicating some of her time volunteering at the SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health. She has been working with the centre on several projects, including the implementation of an anti- bullying code of conduct for hospital patients inspired by the TFS Code of Conduct. A new TFS tradition: the Junior School triathlon Our inaugural Junior School triathlon was held in June, a spirited and challenging event bound to become an unmissable spring celebration for the TFS community. Our students ran, biked and swam with great energy, cheered on by an enthusiastic parent audience. Green and Platinum: the other TFS colours TFS was awarded Platinum certification by Ontario EcoSchools for the second year in a row, in recognition of the consistent efforts undertaken by our students and staff to reduce our community's carbon footprint. This year, the school is carrying out two major ecological projects: the building of a new health trail in the ravine, and the creation of a catalogue of the plants in our gardens and forests.
