Ingénieures, unite! Strong showings in sports Emma W., a 2019 graduate, organized a second edition of her Women in Engineering lunch in May, an initiative aimed at fostering a discussion about the place of women engineers. Emma, who is now pursuing chemical engineering at McGill University, offered mentorship to female students in Levels II, III and IV who are interested in this field of study, and invited TFS alumna Anna R. '12 to speak about her experience as an engineer. Athletics form an integral part of the TFS experience. Last spring, more than 135 athletes joined four competitive teams at the Junior School; at the West Campus, 98% of students from Grades 3 to 7 joined at least one of the 23 competitive teams, while 235 Senior School athletes joined 18 different teams. Last year, the curling program was revived at the Senior School, with two teams competing in the CISAA senior open curling league. Despite being beginners, our coed athletes played strongly and improved consistently. A number of new sports-related clubs have also been created, including climbing and triathlon clubs, which both obtained impressive results in the spring. Meanwhile, our talented coed players made waves in some of the boys' tournaments; TFS athletes even became the first coed champions to win the junior boys badminton tournament in the spring. Accolades for journalism Last June, Nicole D., Laura H., Megan C. and Sean H., from the Senior School's Limited Edition newspaper, attended the Toronto Star High School Journalism Awards at the Toronto Reference Library. There were 700 submissions for only 20 awards, and the TFS team was honoured to receive runner- up awards for electronic layout and design, as well as best newspaper 15 staff and under. ENTRE NOUS 08 TFS teams showcased strong results throughout the winter (W) and spring (S) seasons, winning numerous gold, silver and bronze medals.
