Last year, several Senior School students competed in the renowned Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge and performed brilliantly. Based on her results, Emily G., in Level II, was offered a spot at the prestigious Canadian Mathematical Society's Canada Math Camp. Participation in this program, designed for students who have the potential to compete at the olympiad level in math, is by invitation only. ENTRE NOUS 06 Spearheading academic research Mastering French orthographe Nicholas C., Level V student and Premier Citoyen at TFS, spent the summer working on a scientific article focused on determining the optimal clinical trial design for patients and families, as well as physicians and researchers. Originally inspired by his Level III personal project, Nicholas' research is based on data gathered with a survey study and analyzed with his own computer simulation, written in the R language. His article has been submitted to three scientific journals and is currently undergoing peer review. Matthew L., a West Campus Grade 6 student, finished in first place at the provincial spelling bee La Dictée P.G.L., organized by the Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie. This impressive result qualified him to represent TFS at the international final of the contest in Montreal, where he was ranked first among Ontario candidates. Math champions Perfecting our classical culture Sixteen Senior School students took part in the Fall Certamen 2019 competition. Leaning on their buzzers, Madina B., Maftuna B., Declan C., Diba D., Max G., Tristan K., Sebastian G., Oysha K., Natalie L., Vanessa L., Philip N., Zi P., Arnaud S., Yunxi W., Anne Y. and Julia Z. gave excellent answers to questions about ancient Roman history, Latin vocabulary and classical mythology. The junior team was awarded the overall silver place. Meanwhile, Maftuna B. took home the Senior Latin Oral Reading Trophy, marking the third year in a row that this prize has been awarded to a TFS student. Learning about Inuit history A group of Grade 6 students attended an enlightening assembly led by Madeleine Redfern, Mayor of Iqaluit, Nunavut. Mayor Redfern shared information about the Inuit way of life, emphasizing the importance of family and living in harmony with nature. She also explained how residential schools have impacted her community to this day. After the assembly, Ms. Redfern engaged in another thoughtful dialogue with La p'tite école students. She is pictured here with a Grade 1 class.
