TFS Foundation: 2020 meant the continuation of safety protocols and a rapid transition to remote learning. What did we gain from this challenging experience? Norman Gaudet: We actually became closer as a community. Despite physical distancing, we learned new things about ourselves and our capabilities to adapt to big changes together. We originally mobilized to implement digital remote teaching supports, which we can now use to augment in-class instruction, like having guest speakers on double projectors. We became an even stronger community as we looked for ways to stay connected and supportive—like our community supporting the Class of 2021 Fund. So many things continued to happen despite the pandemic, like the redevelopment of La Terrasse and the upgrades to the West Campus. And so many traditions became reimagined through the ingenuity and collaboration of our community, like Kermesse, graduation, and the annual alumni holiday social. TFS Foundation: This coming year represents the return to in-person learning and you will be in your new role. This is a big year. How will you approach it? M. Gaudet: I'd like to set a fresh, positive tone for the year that puts the students M. Norman Gaudet is no stranger to the TFS community, having been Principal of the Senior School from 2015 to 2020 when he took over as Executive Director of the school-wide Learning Forum. M. Gaudet is a big believer in the importance of international understanding and global citizenship and has lived and taught in various global locales— including Nigeria, Yemen and the United States—before joining the TFS community.
