ENTRE NOUS ALUMNI IN THE SPOTLIGHT ANCIENNES ÉLÈVES INSPIRANTES 24 As supporters from the very beginning, the TFS community could not be prouder of its two alumni, Gabriela DeBues-Stafford '13 and Lucia Stafford '16, who united us all at the Too Olympic Games. 2021 was a remarkable year for the two sisters in middle-distance running, as they rank among the best runners in the world. eir younger brother Nicholas, a Level IV student at TFS, has the same passion and is now training at the University of Toronto at a competitive level. Let's celebrate and track down what the two sisters have been up to this past year. Gabriela set herself one goal for 2021: "To be in that Olympic final and be hunting down a medal." After a very successful first day of competition she qualified for the 1500 metres final with a time under four minutes. As opposed to her first Olympic Games in Rio five years earlier, she said, "I've never felt this strong physically and confident mentally racing, and I am so thrilled to be in the shape of my life for this Olympics." She was also grateful to have her younger sister by her side in Tokyo, who "reminds me that running should be fun!" During the finals, she reached an impressive fifth place, placing her among the best in the world. However, the hunt is still on. In February 2022, having just won and set new Canadian records in the indoor 3000 and 5000 metres, she is still hungry for more.
