Parents' Handbook 2022– 2023 41 VULNERABLE SECTOR POLICY (FOR VOLUNTEERS) The goal of TFS' Vulnerable Sector Policy is to ensure the safety of all TFS students. It applies to all parents, guardians and community members volunteering for the school in any capacity, including in the classroom, on trips, supporting school events or initiatives (including those outside of school hours) or participating on parent committees and/or the school and Foundation boards. Volunteers at the Jardin d'éveil and in PK classes, in any capacity, are required to complete a vulnerable sector check as per the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA). Parents or community members invited to attend a concert, a Parent-Teacher night, or a school event, are not considered to be volunteering. Completing the screening includes three steps: annually signing and submitting the online offence declaration form on the Parent Portal (Veracross); every five years submitting a Vulnerable Sector Screening form to Toronto Police Services or the appropriate jurisdictional service; and providing the processed form to your branch. Please note that all teachers, educators and administrative staff hired by TFS undergo Vulnerable Sector Screening as a condition of their employment, and every five years thereafter. If you have any questions and/or concerns regarding the Vulnerable Sector Policy, please contact your branch principal.
