Parents' Handbook 2022– 2023 43 which is consistent, coherent and developmentally appropriate across the school. This policy is founded upon the TFS mission and draws upon its tradition. The policy complies with curricular requirements for Ontario, France and the International Baccalaureate Programs and reflects leading research on best practice in this domain. In turn, this policy seeks to aid communication about student achievement between teachers, students and parents. Ultimately, it facilitates students' progress in their learning. This policy document includes sections on the rationale and process for determining marks, how missed/late work is handled, and the TFS evaluation scale. Please go to the Parent Portal (Veracross) and read the full policy under Parent Resources (TFS Policies). TUTORING POLICY There is a range of support available at TFS to better equip all students with the tools they need for academic success. These often include extra help from teachers, homework skills club, math clinics, virtual tutorials, peer mentoring and small group sessions for study strategies. There are no fees for any of these supports. At times, individualised tutoring is suggested to be in the best interest of the student. Should your child need tutoring, TFS will provide a list of tutors and/or tutoring organisations. This service is independent of TFS. This means that TFS does not set fees or bills for the services. It is a service that you negotiate directly with the agency. Please contact Nensi Kelisi (nkellici@tfs.ca) This service is independent from the school. WHY REQUEST A TUTOR? Requests for tutoring may come from a student, teacher, or parent, or the student's homeroom or Learning Resource teacher. This request will be reviewed by the SBST team to ensure tutoring is the best option. The following questions will be considered: • What kind of help is already in place at and beyond school? • Is the student needing content or academic skills support? • Have other strategies already been tried through the Learning Forum and with teachers? TUTORS HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES • TFS teachers and external tutors will set up their pricing and bill parents directly. • The tutor will arrange times with parents to meet the student outside the school during class time or special events. • Follow all procedures and behaviours as outlined by the Standards and Boundaries for Working with Children – ETFO regulations. • May connect once a month with the student's teacher to support and reflect the teacher's curricular goals and objectives. • Reflect an understanding of the student's individual learning needs and use teaching strategies best suited to the learner during tutoring sessions. LEARNING FORUM SUPPORT We highly recommend that the tutor connects with the Learning Forum (Learning Specialist/Guiding Counsellor) to review credentials and procedures. They may assist tutors in individualising instruction for students. HARASSMENT POLICY HIGHLIGHTS TFS is fully committed to respecting and protecting the personal dignity and human rights of our students and employees. TFS has a comprehensive Harassment Policy based on the Ontario Human Rights Code. Harassment in any form is against everything for which we stand, and it will not be tolerated. Harassment includes but is not limited to unwelcome or unwanted physical or verbal behaviour directed towards members of a particular race, ancestry, place of origin,
