2 T F S F O U N D AT I O N 2 T F S F O U N D AT I O N A JOINT MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF THE TFS BOARD AND THE HEAD OF SCHOOL Thank you to our families, our resilient students and our dedicated staff who demonstrated time and again how to manage change with grace and generosity. Thankfully, we were able to mark the end of the school year with both the renewed exuberance of Kermesse and the magic of La Guinguette. Most significant of all, after a two-year hiatus, we were able to celebrate the return of our graduation ceremony with the distinguished Class of 2022. The continuation of the pandemic did not impede our accomplishments. These included environmental and sustainability initiatives at both campuses, classroom renovations, the introduction of an apiary in Toronto and the forging of a long-term partnership with Glendon College's outdoor program specialists. In addition, equity, diversity, inclusion and justice steering committees were established, one with representation from all members of our community and the second specific to the Senior School, which then inspired students to create their own EDIJ student council. What a breath of fresh air it was to start this new school year in full swing! The hallways are now vibrant with the chatter of students; sports teams, clubs and trips have been reinstated; and in-person events once again claim the spotlight day and night. We couldn't have asked for a better kick-off to celebrate our 60th anniversary in Toronto and 50th at the West Campus – a year of recognizing our amazing TFS journey, from six students in 1962 to one of the largest independent schools in Canada today. Roger Poirier Chair, TFS Board of Directors Président du Conseil d'administration Dear TFS communi, is past year, flexibili was the backbone of all we undertook. We continued to strengthen our contingency plans, reimagined key events and were more than ready for adaptations to learning, be it on campus or remote. e commitment of staff, students and families to maintain our TFS communi was the heart that kept us beating. And for that we are deeply grateful. It showed, once again, that we can accomplish extraordinary things together. Our anniversary was made even more meaningful with the passing of Harry Giles in December 2021, at the age of 91. As our co-founders, he and his wife Anna Giles were the pioneers of bilingual education in Canada. Their spirit of innovation, international-mindedness and belief in children's boundless capacity to learn remain at the heart of TFS today. We also bid adieu to our long-standing principal at La p'tite école, Mirna Hafez. Mirna left an indelible mark on TFS with her creative spirit and utter devotion to her young students and their families. In this school year, we are continuing to focus on enhancing the student experience and nurturing a sense of belonging. Adopting a STEAM-based multidisciplinary approach, we're expanding our programs in coding and applying design thinking across subjects. We're also providing greater student leadership opportunities so that students can take an increasingly active role in the school and develop skills that will be vital to their future lives. TFS is a special community. Over the past few years it has shown us just how extraordinary it is. We extend a heartfelt thank you to all our parents, volunteers, board members, donors, alumni, faculty and staff, and the Foundation team, who continue to support and inspire us every day, and who guide us in accomplishing extraordinary things now and in the future.
