JENNIFER PARKER '14
MD/Ph.D. Student, University of Toronto,
B.Sc. (Hons.), Stanford University
Toronto, ON
A competitive figure skater from the age of
nine, Jennifer attended Stanford University and
obtained a B.Sc. (Honours) in bioengineering
in 2019. During her first year at Stanford she
continued to figure skate competitively, but
as her course load grew heavier, she decided
to retire from the sport. Determined to stay
active, she joined Stanford's Equestrian Team
as a beginner rider. She competed with the
team at nationals in her final year, placing
seventh in her category. Jennifer is currently
attending the University of Toronto for the
dual-degree MD/PhD program. The first-year
medical student joined the varsity Blues figure
skating team and won gold in the ladies single
free skate at the 2020 OUA Figure Skating
Championship. Jennifer plans to be a clinician-
scientist. "Without sport, I am not sure I
would have the same focus and drive needed
to pursue a career path that will take over a
decade to achieve."
Currently in her second year at Queen's
University in the life sciences program, Emilie's
next goal is medical school. The challenges of
medical school excite Emily, and she believes
this fearless mindset is a direct result of
playing elite hockey and being a student-athlete
throughout her life.
