The School-Based Support Team (SBST) includes the Principal, Vice-Principal(s), Guidance, Learning Specialist, with input from classroom teachers and a Social Worker when needed. The team meets regularly to review individual children's specific needs, based on advice from teachers and parental input. The child's needs are discussed and followed, when appropriate, by classroom observation and the implementation of an individualized learning plan; parents are involved throughout the process. In some cases testing is recommended and the school can provide some diagnostic assessments as well as pre-screening. If an external assessment is recommended, TFS helps parents by providing a list of specialists and their areas of expertise. Junior School The Junior School Learning Forum team includes two learning specialists, a social skills consultant and a guidance counsellor. Learning specialists are scheduled in class and provide whole class, small group and individual support. Regularly scheduled guidance classes ensure that all students are given instruction on social and life skills, problem-solving and strategies for well-being including mindfulness and meditation. The social skills consultant provide behavioural and social-emotional skills training, and offers counsel and solutions to support children Parents can contact their child's homeroom teacher to discuss support and to connect to the Learning Forum team as needed. West Campus – Primary years and Grades 6 and 7 The West Campus Learning forum team includes two learning specialists/guidance counsellors who provide whole class, small group and individual support. The guidance curriculum in Grades 6 and 7 includes social skills training, health and well-being and learning strategies, including organizational skills. A key emphasis at this stage is to help students make the transition to the Senior School so that they can begin to become independent learners. SENIOR SCHOOL STUDENT SERVICES Guidance Counselling Department The guidance team prioritizes social-emotional well-being, academic counselling, career exploration for postsecondary applications and transitioning to university to support students in thriving at each stage of their journey at TFS and beyond. We encourage students to cultivate both self- awareness and self-advocacy skills, empowering them to explore various paths toward their individual versions of success. Working closely with teachers, learning specialists, the healthy and wellness team, administration and families, our team ensures a personalized and collaborative approach. With low counsellor-to- student ratios, guidance classes, and opportunities for individual and small-group counselling, students have many ways to connect with our team. Grades 6 and 7 The guidance curriculum includes social skills training, health and well-being and learning strategies, including organizational skills and study strategies. A key emphasis at this level is to help students make the transition to the Senior School so that they can begin to become independent learners. Organizational check-out times are offered to all students several times a week. Levels I-V Guidance in Levels I-V focuses on learning about individual interests, strengths and challenges; wellness and social-emotional skills; academic planning and exploring future educational and career directions.
