Leaving the nest isn't always easy, but sometimes the biggest adventures happen when we do! And nothing says adventure like spending your first overnight school trip surrounded by exotic animals. On this excursion to the Toronto Zoo with the Serengeti Bush Camp, our Grade 3 Junior School students explored the African Savannah and African Rainforest Pavilions by day, witnessing the incredible diversity of wildlife. By night, they settled into their authentic safari tents and gathered under the stars by campfire to exchange stories. Needless to say, it was a wild night! First Overnight Trip Is a Zoo! ENTRE NOUS 26 While every year we welcome an array of French guest speakers from numerous backgrounds, very rarely do we have the opportunity to receive a visit from not one but two Grey Cup championship players. Argonauts Boris Bede, a French-born Canadian, and Henoc Muamba, a Congolese-Canadian, came to our Senior School to discuss "football américain" and what it takes to become a professional athlete. With little representation of French- speaking athletes in this anglophone-dominated sport, the two Argonauts shared how they quickly developed a bond on and off the field through their shared language. Students listened as they proudly stood beside the large Grey Cup trophy glistening under the lights and later were even given the chance to take a photo of it. Argonauts Touch Down at the Senior School Students partaking in the Level I interdisciplinary project involving both science and history learned about the workings of a steam-powered engine by creating their own, using a kit with cardboard components. Before getting started, they examined the history of this revolutionary technology, which was once the main source of power for trains and factories in the newly industrialized Western world. The students worked in groups to understand how the parts were to be used to execute the design, and their machines were then tested. Students also demonstrated their knowledge by creating both a brochure and a presentation explaining the steam engine's functions. STEAM Machines
