NOLAN W. DESTINATION McGill University PROGRAM Arts Nolan's journey at TFS began in SK and continued through Grade 3, before he returned in Level I. His experience was marked by leadership, exploration and growth. Nolan was involved in TFS athletics, excelling in cross-country, swimming, badminton and ultimate frisbee, of which he was captain for two years. He was also an assistant coach for the under 14 cross-country team. A highlight for him was qualifying for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) competition in swimming. Beyond athletics, Nolan wholeheartedly embraced the arts, participating in the Dance and Fashion Shows and performing in the school play. He took to the stage in Level III and again in TFS' 60th anniversary production of Artefacts, where he had a lead role. These experiences helped him grow as a performer and develop leadership skills. As a deputy on the student council, Nolan led meetings and headed a subcommittee on uniforms, successfully advocating for casual dress days on Fridays. It was this passion for student representation and advocacy that sparked his interest in politics. His political journey included becoming Secretary of the Young Liberals of Canada. He also served as Co-Youth Chair for Leslie Church's Toronto – St. Paul's by-election campaign and later secured an internship with the Ontario Liberal Party at Queen's Park. In March 2024, he participated in Ontario's Legislative Assembly Model Parliament, representing Toronto – St. Paul's. Students were sorted into parties, participated in debates and held elections. After a competitive race, Nolan was elected Leader of the Opposition. This program allowed him to engage with key figures in Ontario politics and solidified his passion for public service. Nolan's ambitions also extend into healthcare. He was the deputy leader of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), a healthcare professionals' club allowing students to explore careers in health sciences. At 16, he completed the first level of emergency medical services training, earning him the emergency medical responder designation, taught first aid and became a certified lifeguard. Today Nolan is studying political science and economics at McGill University. He hopes to explore the intersections of these fields and their influence on political decision- making. He is committed to staying active and is considering advancing his emergency medical responder certification. Recognizing the value of French, he also plans to continue improving his language skills. Nolan hopes to be a community advocate in the future and hasn't ruled out running for political office. 40 ENTRE NOUS
