CORYN M. DESTINATION Barnard College, Columbia University PROGRAM Liberal Arts & Sciences Coryn is a dynamic student who was able to not only achieve great academic success at TFS but also make a lasting contribution to the TFS community. Coryn shared: "The fulfilment from being part of something bigger than myself, and knowing we're making changes that will have a lasting impact, makes me proud to have left my mark on TFS." As the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Justice Council prefect, Coryn played a pivotal role in organizing anti-bullying and anti-racism workshops for Grade 7 and Level I students. She also led meetings to gather and implement student feedback, working closely with administrators and teachers to address key issues and improve inclusivity. Co-editor of the student newspaper Limited Edition, Coryn, an active contributor to the newspaper since Level I, transitioned the publication from print to online in her final year, amplifying student voices and expanding the school's creative reach. Her involvement in the Black Excellence Society empowered her to inspire others. She joined in Level I and was active in leading discussions on Black identity and helping organize the annual Black History Month assembly. Coryn found it particularly meaningful to evolve from a younger participant into a confident leader within the group. Academically, her favourite subject is English, a field she finds deeply engaging. Her passion for English also intersects with her love of other creative disciplines, such as drama and art. Following her passion, Coryn enrolled at Barnard College, Columbia University, to pursue a double major in economics and English, with a concentration in philosophy. Given the interdisciplinary nature of her program, she will be able to take courses across subject areas, not just in the humanities. She credits TFS and the IB program with preparing her. "I like that I'll be taking courses covering a variety of subject areas and pushing myself beyond my comfort zone," she says. Having tackled advanced math and science courses at TFS, she developed an appreciation for these challenges and values how they enhanced her ability to think critically and understand the broader world. At university, Coryn aspires to get involved with Barnard's Athena Center for Leadership. She would like to contribute to projects that drive global change and hopes to join the Athena Fellows Program after her first year. In addition, she plans to further develop her journalism skills and hopes to participate in an exchange program, allowing her to leverage the language expertise she gained at TFS. Ultimately, Coryn is committed to making a positive impact wherever she goes, continuing to be a force for good in the world and enriching the lives of others. 41 TFS
