JUNIOR SCHOOL Student Leadership at the Junior School During a physical education unit, our Grade 4 students took to the field to learn about different sporting cultures across the world. They were very lucky to receive a visit from two members of Canada's Gaelic World Cup team (silver medalists in 2023), who taught them how to play the Irish sport of Gaelic football! One member was our very own Junior School Vice-Principal, Adriane Garland, who was joined by her teammate Salma El Yamani. Together they led students through the rules of the game and some fundamental techniques. The lesson ended with a mini-game, where students applied the skills they had learned. It was a phenomenal way to combine different cultural perspectives with a fun athletic activity. Thanks to the support of Mme Jennifer Savov, the Junior School choir participated in a local music concert, Music and Miracles, last December. Alongside students from different schools and groups, they performed a number of songs at the Lawrence Park Community Church, all in support of the music therapy program at McMaster Children's Hospital. Our ambitious choristers even went above and beyond to further this initiative by selling cookies during a lunchtime bake sale and raised over $600! JUNIOR SCHOOL Gaelic Football Comes to TFS JUNIOR SCHOOL Fundraising at the Junior School The Junior School has always been a shining example of student leadership. Thanks to the implementation of the ambassadors program, over 40 students had the opportunity to develop and showcase their leadership skills, engaging in a wide variety of roles and responsibilities over the last school year. Ambassadors represented the Junior School during important occasions, such as open houses and parent-teacher interviews, acted as recess buddies, organized fun activities and planned events like the October pumpkin-carving contest. The growing leaders were not without guidance, however, as they had opportunities to learn from older students, particularly the Senior School outreach prefects, who shared their advice through engaging presentations delivered directly in their classrooms. 8 ENTRE NOUS
