LILA B. DESTINATION Northwestern University PROGRAM Liberal Arts & Sciences Lila is a talented athlete and dedicated student who proved that it's possible to excel at both. Provided with the support she needed at TFS in order to compete as an elite athlete, Lila was able to hone her talent for swimming, among other sports, while accomplishing impressive academic achievements. Recognized for her swimming prowess early on, Lila was scouted in Level IV and explored many university opportunities across the United States. She credits her aquatics career for opening many doors, including athletic scholarships. Beyond swimming, Lila was a valued member of TFS' basketball and track and field teams. Her athletic contribution to the school was significant and brought her great joy. Despite her busy schedule, Lila made time for other co-curricular activities as well. An active member of the Globe Club, she helped eradicate invasive species from our ravine, demonstrating her excellence in collaborating with others, addressing multiple perspectives and tackling complex problems. One of Lila's proudest academic accomplishments was her in-depth 4,000-word essay in French examining the political impact of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Her analysis focused on how different political entities wielded influence and power through the Games. She was able to cultivate her keen interest in global politics through a variety of projects, including those that looked at the troubles in Northern Ireland and China's role in the space race. For Lila, geopolitics fuels her desire to stay deeply informed and make meaningful connections across different contexts. Upon graduation, Lila chose Northwestern University after discovering its exceptional swimming facilities, enriching academic environment and strong support system for its student-athletes. She is competing in Division 1 swimming while majoring in political science and international relations. Looking ahead, Lila is considering a career in law or one that would allow her to work with an international organization such as the UN. She plans to continue her French-language proficiency, seeing it as a crucial asset for her future. She values the wisdom imparted by her teachers at TFS and remains committed to drawing upon their insights in her post-secondary pursuits.
