PECT RES 2014 – 2015 Report to Our Community | 5 "TFS responds and adapts to the ever-changing needs of its students and to our changing times." Proud parents of three TFS students, Sofia in the Senior School, Luca in the Junior School and Siena at La p'tite école, Rosemary Barbara and Richard Cocq joined the TFS family six years ago when they chose to make Toronto their home base. Richard's international business meant that the family lived in both Mexico and the U.S. for some time. The return to Canada and to the Toronto neighbourhood in which they now live was a deliberate choice, and TFS was the key factor in that choice. "We were seeking a co-ed independent school and we were impressed with the international curriculum and the bilingual educational experience that TFS could offer. We were also pleased to know that all of our children would be able to attend one school right through to graduation, without having to transfer elsewhere," says Richard. Rosemary and Richard couldn't be happier with their choice of school. They have seen TFS grow and evolve over the years. "Especially in the last three years," they add. "TFS responds and adapts to the ever-changing needs of its students and to our changing times." Yet they point out that a school is only as good as the team of people who supports it, and that team includes parents. For Richard and Rosemary, that means a hands-on commitment through volunteerism as well as their financial support. Rosemary has been volunteering her time at TFS from the earliest days, when the two eldest children were first enrolled. First she served as a class representative, then as a grade representative and is now Branch Coordinator at La p'tite école, managing a team of four other parent volunteers, a role she thoroughly enjoys. "It's important to get involved with the school as soon as possible," Richard advises new TFS parents. "That way, you build a strong relationship with your child's school and you will have opportunities to make a difference." Making a difference matters to Rosemary and Richard. When they heard about the Learning Forum initiative, one of the strategic priorities of Soaring Beyond: The Campaign for TFS, they were eager to make a contribution. They especially liked the idea of personalized learning support and access to a range of resources and technologies, all geared to offering TFS students every opportunity to excel and succeed. Rosemary and Richard are committed to the school for the long term, and they enthusiastically encourage other TFS families to give of their time, talent and treasure, too. "The school needs resources in order to provide our students with an exceptional foundation for the future. The Soaring Beyond campaign offers TFS parents a special opportunity to make a positive contribution to our children's education."
