Before and After School Care Before School Children arriving at 7:30 a.m. (Toronto campus) are served a light breakfast, including two food groups (usually fruit, cereal and milk). A staff member leads and oversees group activities. – As children arrive, they select short term, quiet activities (board or card games, puzzles, reading, colouring, blocks, Lego, storytelling) that do not require significant set-up or clean-up. All the material is easily accessible for the children to use at any time. – If they are still tired, they can rest. – Weather permitting, outside activities will take place as well. A staff member takes the children outside or to the gym to play organized games or for active play. At 8:30 a.m., children help clean up the interest area and gather their belongings for school; they are escorted to their class/location to meet their teacher. After School 3:45 to 4:00 p.m. - A staff member escorts the children from their classroom or playground to the child care location. (Jardin d'éveil stays in the same building). - Children are greeted by the staff member in charge of their age group (attendance). - Children put away their belongings, use the bathroom and wash their hands. - A snack is served (including two food groups), mainly fruit, vegetables, cereal, cheese, yogurt and milk or water. All snacks are nut free. 4:00 p.m.: Children gather with their educator to select their activities/options/special projects/ discussion/exciting new songs (outdoors only during the pandemic). The children then participate in different activities of their choice: – Card games – Board games – Quiet area (books, writing materials, colouring) – Blocks, Lego, construction – Pretend-play games – Outside games / games and activities /unstructured play in the mini-gym – Arts and crafts All safety precautions recommended by the Ministry of Education will be implemented including disinfecting and washing toys. Duration of activities depends on children's interest and attention spans.
