LEARNING ABOUT CITIZENSHIP AT LA P'TITE ÉCOLE TFS' YOUNGER STUDENTS ARE NOT STRANGERS TO the benefits of having an international perspective. Age-appropriate initiatives expose them to various cultures and teach them about our interconnected world and the importance of being open-minded. One such initiative had the students learning about how children in other countries get to school, often on foot over a long distance, shedding light on discrepancies amongst regions with widely varying economies. Through photos and videos, and under the direction of staff mentors, La p'tite école students observed cultural differences, and engaged in meaningful conversations to learn more about the world around them. Some of the most popular events at La p'tite école are the International Weeks, when, with "passports" in hand, students celebrate the many nationalities within their branch. After seven years, our young "globe trotters" have relished the culture, food and history of India, Russia, Spain, Lebanon, Armenia, Mexico, Latin America, Italy, Brazil, the francophone countries from West Africa, Egypt, China, Iran, Korea, Greece and Jamaica, to name a few. Read more about mentoring on page 10. Cercle Culturel Français (CCF) IMPLEMENTED LAST SPRING, le Cercle Culturel Français (CCF) is an initiative by the school to create a home for the francophone community in Ontario and offer the TFS community an opportunity to deepen their international perspective and understanding of Francophonie culture. Events in spring 2017 included Raquettes et raclette, Couscous, Cabane à sucre and a Jacques Brel- inspired evening. Regular CCF events will continue to be hosted and sponsored by TFS. All members of TFS – students, staff, parents and alumni – are invited, as well as the wider francophone community. TFS students and Dr. Josep González hold up the Francophonie flag. 9 TFS ENTRE NOUS 2018
