14 Parents' Handbook 2020– 2021 - In the afternoon: park in the Mildenhall playground (only after 3:15 p.m.) and 296 Lawrence Avenue parking area. Since teachers must concentrate fully on ensuring the children's safety, we ask you not to converse at length with the teachers on duty at dismissal time. If discussion with the teacher is required, please arrange an appointment. West Campus Your co-operation in safe driving and parking on campus is appreciated. All numbered parking spots have been allocated to staff. - Park only in the visitors' parking areas marked with a "V" and in legal spots on Halliday and Meredith; - Cars parked illegally (in No Parking areas and on sidewalks, or blocking neighbours' driveways) will be tagged and towed; and - Please respect the one-way and drop-off lanes. STUDENT PARKING Level V students must request approval directly from the Senior School Principal to be allowed to park on the premises. The number of passes available to Senior School students is limited. Any vehicle parked without authorization will be tagged and/or towed away. CARPOOLING TFS offers a third-party managed carpooling service as part of our commitment to a sustainable environment. This web-based service assists parents and staff in coordinating carpools to and from both of our campuses. The secure system, www.carpoolworld.com, provides matches between families with similar travel requirements. If you are interested in using the system, please use the code 85959 for the Toronto campus, or 85957 for the West Campus. WALKING WEDNESDAYS To promote walking, cycling or the use of other active transportation for the school journey wherever possible, the Toronto campus encourages all age-appropriate students to participate in a Walking Wednesdays program. Please consider making the effort to walk, cycle, scooter or take transit to school. It establishes healthy habits for life. The proven benefits of walking to school include: - Helping meet the Canadian Physical Activity Guideline of 60 minutes of daily exercise recommended for children ages 5 - 17; - Arriving alert and ready to learn; - Less stress, greater happiness; - Less pollution; and - Reduced traffic congestion at and around the school. PARTIES AND INVITATIONS INVITATION POLICY We encourage parents to be mindful for birthday parties so that no child from the class is excluded. IN-CLASS CELEBRATIONS For the 2020-2021 school year, in-class celebrations will be restricted. Under normal circumstances, we ask parents to make arrangements with the teacher when sending food to be shared in class. Remember all treats must be nut-free, and not homemade (please refer to our anaphylaxis policy). Parents can create an account at tfs.catertrax.com and order from the class parties menu. For assistance, please email catering@tfs.ca or call Chartwells at ext. 4550. COMMUNICATING TO PARENTS TFS communicates primarily by email with our parents; please ensure we always have your most current email address. Please notify your child's Branch Office in writing about any changes with respect to address, telephone numbers (including business and emergency numbers), email addresses and any other relevant personal data as soon as these changes are known.
