LA P' TITE ÉCOLE SK Grandparents' Day LA P' TITE ÉCOLE Miigwech to the Ravine Last year, the Grade 6 and 7 students of the West Campus participated in the annual Beaver Computing Challenge (BCC), organized by the University of Waterloo. The BCC introduces students to computer science and is designed for those with little to no previous experience in computing. As a problem-solving contest, students worked on a series of computational and logic-based questions. Eight students received a perfect score on the contest for their respective grade category: Aiden Z., Justin L., Harry H. and Farhan H., and Baoshi W., Erik S., Dahlia V. and Wendy T. Congratulations! WEST CAMPUS Beaver Computing Challenge In our SK classes at La p'tite école, a day was held to celebrate the significance of our students' grandparents. Even if not all of the students still had their grandparents in their lives, the SK unit showcased how communities and families are organized and how they connect the students to a generation that holds a wealth of knowledge, experiences and love. The grandparents who attended told the classes about their cultural backgrounds and said "hello" in their native languages. They were also asked to bring in a story to read to the students and to participate in a craft activity with their grandchildren as well as with those students who could not have their grandparents join them that morning. In our efforts to intertwine principles of Indigenous knowledge and culture with the fundamentals of education, our La p'tite école students engaged in an outdoor inquiry unit of acknowledging the land, water, plants and animals. In this activity, they recognized the change of the season and learned about the importance of fall as the forest gets ready for winter. They also collected brightly coloured fallen leaves to develop their understanding of algorithms. The students enjoyed building a pile of leaves, finishing the activity by jumping in the pile and then throwing the leaves up in the air to rejoice in their falling. Thank you, "Miigwech," to the ravine. 10 ENTRE NOUS
