La Grande Lessive, which translates to large laundry, is a global art initiative that takes place on a single day each year. It sees students from around the world create art on A4 paper, on the same day, and hang their pieces using clothespins on an outdoor clothesline. Several students from the West Campus in Grades 5, 6 and 7 took part in this worldwide exhibition and decorated their campus with beautiful paintings and drawings based on this year's theme, With or Without Water. The students' contributions showcased their artistic prowess, fostered creativity and allowed them to appreciate the power of art in conveying stylized messages about water scarcity. On Remembrance Day 2023, the students at the West Campus had the privilege of listening to Mr. Juan Carlos HincapiƩ, a distinguished veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces and our own environmental and Indigenous studies resources teacher. Mr. HincapiƩ provided our students with firsthand insights into the experiences of being a UN peacekeeper and shared captivating stories from his time in service. Thoroughly engaged by Mr. HincapiƩ's knowledge and expertise, the students had a unique perspective added to their understanding of historical events. It was also an opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, fostering a deeper and more meaningful educational environment. WEST CAMPUS Remembrance Day at the West Campus WEST CAMPUS La Grande Lessive Our Young Entrepreneurs Club showcased tremendous creativity, teamwork and a commitment to community service during the last school year. Our students worked collaboratively to launch their own unique pop-up businesses. Those in Grades 1 to 3 set up a hot chocolate stand and managed all aspects of their business, including designing logos and marketing their product. Meanwhile, students in Grades 4 to 6 launched a book business with the creation of the "All-in-One Book," demonstrating their entrepreneurial skills in everything from brainstorming to product development and promotion. In the end, both business enterprises collectively raised $239 from just two hours of sales! All profits were donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank, where a single dollar can provide a meal for a person in need. WEST CAMPUS Young Entrepreneurs Feed 239 Children across the GTA 11 TFS
