Full Grade 3 Athletics Program a Real Success DURING THE 2015-2016 ACADEMIC YEAR, a full Grade 3 competitive athletics program was implemented as a pilot project at the Junior School. The program, a huge success, will continue to be offered to Grade 3 (Under 9) students, giving them fantastic opportunities to learn fundamental athletics skills and experience positive competitive environments. Through practising their sports, they will learn and live the school's values, providing them with life lessons, above all. ATHLETICS ATHLETICS WEST CAMPUS SOFTBALL LAST SPRING our Grades 5/6 (U12) boys and girls softball teams participated in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) softball championships. Both teams started their day undefeated in round-robin play. In the semi-finals, the boys upset a stronger team to advance to the finals, while the girls caught up to the opposing team to remain undefeated. In the final games, both teams defeated their rivals and claimed the championship title. Winning a double championship in their age group was a historic moment for the West Campus. Kids Become Rock Stars at La p'tite école AT TFS, PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS and athletics start at an early age and greatly benefit students. Every year, SK and Grade 1 students participate in rock climbing workshops. This activity is not only a great workout that keeps children moving and burning energy, it also gives them an opportunity to put their problem-solving skills to the test, by building confidence and overcoming fears. They learn that it takes strength, focus and perseverance to rise to the top while embracing new challenges and having fun! IMPRESSIVE RESULTS FOR BOTH THE JUNIOR AND SENIOR SCHOOLS IN 2015-16 • 66 competitive teams across 14 sports • TFS athletes participated in 500 games and sports events • Over 75% of our Junior School students were involved in at least one sports team throughout the school year • TFS athletes collectively brought back seven gold, three silver and eight bronze medals from the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) competitions • 26 of our athletes qualified to participate in four Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) competitions (basketball, cross-country, track and field, and gymnastics) and, on two occasions, received the most sportsmanlike award. WEST CAMPUS SOCCER LITTLE DID WE KNOW that this double success would be repeated at the Grades 5/6 (U12) PSAA soccer championships this fall. Once again, both the girls and boys teams went undefeated and claimed their championship titles. The girls won all their games, allowing only one goal scored against them in the entire tournament and the boys were able to tie the score with only two minutes left on the clock.
