ON NOVEMBER 22, THE WEST CAMPUS WELCOMED ALEX AND TYLER MIFFLIN, also known as "The Water Brothers," from the same-named award-winning Canadian eco-adventure series on TVO. Alex and Tyler shared their passion for water conservation and protection with students from Grades 3 to 7, as well as episodes from their show, depicting their journey around the world to educate the public about the water crisis on Earth. Students enjoyed the brothers' POETICALLY SPEAKING LAST WINTER LEVEL III SENIOR SCHOOL STUDENT AUDREY M. represented TFS at the CITE English Teachers' and Students' Conference, by submitting an original poem, titled "Telegram to Tradition." Entered into the Grade 11/12 category of CITE's writing competition, Audrey responded to the prompt of "write the difficult conversation." Awarded first place, Audrey had the distinction of reading her poem to independent school English teachers from across the GTA. "Telegram to Tradition" has since been published in the InCITE 2017 literary magazine. Honing Leadership Skills: The Ontario Educational Leadership Camp THIS FALL, OUR STUDENT INCLUSION LEADERS (Where Everybody Belongs/Chacun a sa place) and Junior Prefects participated in the Ontario Education Leadership Centre's Secondary School Leadership Camp. Students networked with peers from Ottawa, Belle River and Thunder Bay, to St. Catharines and Oakville. Collaboratively, they developed active listening, leadership, problem solving and conflict resolution skills, and importantly, they reflected on the value of gratitude and showing appreciation for others. Festival d'art oratoire FÉLICITATIONS TO WEST CAMPUS GRADE 6 STUDENT ALI R., who won the first prize in the French public speaking category in February 2017, at the GTA's annual Festival d'art oratoire competition. Ali was invited to represent TFS in the provincial contest. All-round development L'élève, être humain et citoyen enthusiasm for bringing environmental issues to life in such an entertaining way and were asked in the end to reflect on personal actions they could take to minimize their water footprint on the planet. Alex and Tyler were excellent role models, truly demonstrating our motto, individuals who reflect, citizens who act, as they reminded us, "to go green, we must think blue!"
